Should I get i5 9600k or i7 8700 for gaming

I’ll be using which ever one for gaming with a rtx 2070 , and I won’t be over clocking on it at least for 3 years. {{same price}}

if i chose i5 9600k will the msi Z370 gaming pro support ? or i should get another one, suggest me one motherboard fits.

Two points, one the 9600K will work on the MSI Z370 Gaming Pro and as you wont be overclocking, it will be more than good enough. Two, I would probably go the 8700 route as you will be getting 6 cores and twelve threads as possessed to just 6 cores...even though it is slightly higher clocked. The 8700 will also do a great job and the additional threads will come in handy in some games and for the future especially as you are not overclocking...

If you already have the MSI Z370 Gaming Pro, then fine but if you do not, then I would consider the Z390 motherboards instead as it will be more future proof and can still handle the 8700 or 9600K.

i wont multi tasking i bought it for gaming.

i5 3.7ghz idle 4.6ghz turbo
i7 3.2 ghz idle 4.6 ghz turbo

i5 will be oc after to years when i feel that 4.6 is not enought !

i i got i7 then is it worth upgrading in the future ? i dont think so.
do i really need that good cpu after few years ? i know gaming need just 2 cores.
thread are just for multi tasking .. i dont know i am still dont know what should i take.

i dont know anything about oc. but i assume that i will learn it after few yeras.

what is your opinion ?
note: i wont oc i5 in first 3 years because its not worth it i will lose warranty .

If you will be overclocking later, the 9600K will overclock very well and once you learn it is very easy. Still, this is a tough choice but I would still go 8700 and then you can always upgrade later in 2 or 3 years to the 9900K when it finally drops to an affordable price...

Both are good choices though as the CPU's today are all very powerful and there is no real wrong choice...it just comes down to what you want it for and how much you want to spend...Both will game within fractions of each other...

i am to close to determine; so if so planing on i9 9900k in the future , which motherboard you suggest me ? Z930 which one ? or MSI Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON?

If you are doing anything other than just standard gaming go with the 8700k. If not 9600k should be good. I have a 9600k in one of my builds right now and all 6 cores are pegged at 95-100% while playing bf1/bfv. Definitely not a streaming cpu either.

On the Z390, the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro or Elite all have 12 phase VRM's and great cooling and they don't cost too much. The MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon or Edge will also be good and the Taichi from ASRock will also be good though cost a bit more than the others...I personally would go the Z390 route as it is better for now and the future..

I would agree with xxxlun4icexxx on the 8700K which is a stellar gaming CPU and games as good as the whole 9th gen series of CPU's and overclocks extremely well...I should know as I have one at 4.9GHz for 24/7 use and 5GHz when I just want to bench mark...4.9GHz at 1.278v....

It’s a tough choice. If gaming at 144Hz I’d probably pick the 9600k but that is because I would overclock it. Single core performance has an impact when going for high FPS/Hz. However the 8700 may last longer. We have seen quad core become entry level recently and overclocking only helps so much, older i7’s with 8 threads have had a second wind over 4 thread CPU’s. In 3 years time I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what we are seeing for hex core/thread cpu’s.
