Last weekend I re-built my PC, and made an embarrassing discovery. My last board and CPU were the Asus ROG Maximus Hero VII, and an Intel I5-4670K. I had been using this combo for a few years now, and it had been working flawlessly. Even under overclock, done by the Asus AI Suite Software.

As I was removing the old board from the case, I was startled to see I only had (6) of the (8) pins from the power supply plugged in. The cable is split into a 4+4, and on the left end of the port, I had accidentally skipped 2 pins in the middle. I had 2 pins hanging out in the air not plugged in at all. I'm amazed that the board has worked so well like this without ever overheating, or crashing, etc.

I'm not even sure of the importance of the EPS port, but I am still surprised it caused no issues.

Solution
The CPU will work with only just the 4 pin connector. The other 4 pin is there to supply more power to your CPU if needed(extreme overclocking for example).
Funny discovery nonetheless, I've never heard something similar before :pt1cable:.
