I built a pc but the motherboard was broken, so I sent it back, and put the Ryzen 2600 back in its packaging. My new motherboard arrived and my computer works, but the cpu is 85 degrees celcius while idle, could it be that the thermal paste was already used or dried or something?

Solution

Yes, just use isopropyl alcohol with a microfibre cloth to clean off the old paste from the CPU and put in the new paste. You can get the alcohol from most pharmacy or departmental stores.

Can I still clean the thermal paste off and apply new thermal paste?

Thanks, I live in the Netherlands, 96% alcohol in a store nearby, will that work?

Should be enough. Stuff like what I mentioned is usually common place in US, but controlled in Singapore (where I live) for some reason, so I use nail polish remover or 96% if it is in stores. Computer stores sell Paste removers as well, so you might some find there. But 96% will be good enough.

I just tried it with the ryzen program, it says the same as hwinfo and my Gigabyte b450 pro software (~40 degrees celcius), so corsair link's temperature (85 Celcius) is false?
