So, I cant seem to find anywhere online where someone has put a 1060 into an optiplex and was wondering if it was even doable. I found a 1060 3gb with a 6 pin that would take some of the load off of the stock 390 motherboard, But what exactly is the difference in drawn power?? would i be better off with a 1050ti?

Edit: Also what Wattage power supply would be recommended for each.

You don't have a 6 pin power connector on your PSU.... the 1060 requires one.
Using adapters like sata to 6 pin is shotty at best. If you want to go with the GTX 1060 you'll need to upgrade your power supply.
Can you post a picture of the power supply sticker(the one with the current output on the 3,3V,5V and 12 V rails)?

Does the PSU have a 6 pin power connector?

Do you have the mini tower or the small form factor version of the optiplex 390?

Suggest you read this first - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3177179/watt-limit-pcie.html

The 1050 Ti has a TDP of 75W and takes all its power from the PCIe slot.

The 1060 has a TDP of 120W, and as you say uses an additional power connector.

So the 1060 takes 45W more.

Their general (minimum) recommend PSU specs are 300W and 400W respectively, but they are general guidelines, and you would do well to sit down and work out your entire system's approximate power draw, then get a PSU that is 1.5x the draw. This allows for better PSU efficiency (uses less power compared to less efficient PSUs), and doesn't get so hot, so it probably lives longer), and leaves some room for future upgrades or additions.

You'll want to find out if your PCIe is limited though.

The MT has a 265W 80+ Gold rated PSU so it's a decent unit... still I wouldn't recommend going for the GTX 1060 since that card has a TDP of 120W, so you'll be running at the limit with the PSU + you'll need a 6 pin power connector and your PSU doesn't have one.

The GTX 1050ti has a tdp of only 75W and it doesn't need a 6 pin power connector... it will draw all of its power from the slot (75W max can be drawn from the PCIe x16 slot) so it will run fine on your configuration.

You should go with the safer route and get the GTX 1050ti.

so with my current config, a 1050 ti is good, but if i did happen to get a more beefy psu could i not use a 1060? as of right now newegg has a 1060 3gb for less then a 1050 ti. just so happens i was gonna buy a 1050 ti today, but regardless ill upgrade my psu if it means its compatible and safe to install the 1060
