I am getting either 8700k or 9700k. If I bet on the 8 series I will delid it, since the 9 series are soldered, delid won't be necessary. I have RGB RAM and my mobo will be z390 chipset, case- either FD Meshify or NZXT 340 elite. I want a cooling solution that will have a good RAM clearance. Air or AIO doesn't matter, I just want a stable 5ghz OC with good temps for daily use and gaming. Will 240mm AIO be sufficient or Dark Rock 4 Air. I could go for Dark Rock Pro 4 but it's too big and I don't want to hide my RGB ram.

Solution
For the 8700K and a delid a 240mm AIO will be plenty. For the 9700K however, you'll want a 240mm AIO at the minimum. I highly recommend a 280mm AIO if you can put one in your system, if not, then go 360 if possible.

280mm and 360mm are very very similar, to the point that they are basically equal. (360mm typically is like 2C cooler cause the fans spin relatively quicker than the 140mms on a 280mm radiator.)

Solution
I have done the exact same with an 8700K...Delid was less frightening than I thought it would be and I have dropped temps a full 18 degrees C with Thermal Grizzly Liquid Metal...I am using a Corsair H150i the big 360mm AIO and at 5GHz my temps with the delid are simply fantastic...in terms of vcore, for me at 4.9Ghz it was 1.278v and at 5GHz I needed 1.325v so I run a 24/7 overclock at 4.9GHz....Some people have got there 8700K's to run at 1.3v but mine just refused....but still not bad at all...

On delidding, just make sure you apply a super thin layer to the CPU die and to the CPU lid..the bit that touches the die...Thankfully there are plenty of Youtube video's on this...
