I used to use old desktop for video editing which is broken now.

I am Low on cash. I want to edit Youtube videos upto 10 mins long and it will be 1080p. I don't play games.

Software: I use Camtasia

Please give me your suggestion:

1. Should I buy Laptop or Desktop? Should I go for Intel or AMD platform?

I guess Laptop will be Cheap for me because in desktop one has to buy monitor as well (as my old monitor is not gonna work as it's broken).

2. I consider buying i3 8th generation laptop with 4gb Ram (as it has 4 cores). Will it do?

I watched a video someone said on youtube they built the whole channel, editing on i3 laptop which she bought a few yrs ago and I guess i3 8th gen is latest and far more advance what she got so it should work. What do you say? Please guide me what should I do?

:)

Solution
Desktops will always be cheaper for the same level of performance OR more performance for the same cost. 4GB of RAM isn't enough. ESPECIALLY for video editing. 16GB should be your target (2x8GB). A Ryzen 2400G might be your best option.

If you don't have to do any editing on the move then there is no real reason to go laptop. You can buy peripherals and the desktop will still be cheaper than the laptop unless you find some great deal, plus the desktop will generally last longer as they tend to not get as hot.

You can find some decent deals on laptops if you are really wanting one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076KVCSRN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This guy goes on sale for $999 occasionally(I bought it while it was on sale for my work laptop)

https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i7-8750H-processor-FireCuda-GL503GE-ES73/dp/B07BPB158F/ref=dp_ob_title_ce This guy has better cpu than what you would probably build on a ryzen desktop assuming you'd go 2400g but then slacks in the gpu department a little bit which is useful for video editing but also has a better screen and likely also goes on sale periodically but somewhat compares even at retail to what you would build on a complete desktop.
