Can i put my gpu in my motherboard while i'm breadboarding it?

Hey Guys. I was planning to breadboarding my system to determine the problem. I have a question, which is can i put my gpu while im breadboarding?

My Specs:
CPU : Intel i5-7600k
GPU: XFX RX480 8GB
RAM: 8x2 corsair lpx vengeance ddr4 2400mhz
SSD: 120gb kingston
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 led turbo (dual fans)

It will work but, its dangerous as you could end up damaging either the card or PCIe slot or both.

That is well sized card which will only have the support of PCI-E slot to hold onto plus you also have to connect the PSU cable.

If you plan to do so, be very very cautious.

To be straight, its not worth the risk.

you can the trick is to have the mb hang over the box a bit so the video card pci slot metal will hang and not push the card out of the mb. the big issue is not letting the gpu flex left or right in the video slot when the mb out side the case.

well my problem is my system suddenly shuts down, then it will only turn on for a split second. i have tried testing my mobo, cpu, rams, and psu. and it works good in other system units. Could it be that the culprit would be my grounded case? my metal case sometimes gives off electricshock whenever i touch it

Yes, that could be a problem. Sometimes when there's no proper earthing, spikes would result in system shut down or in rare cases, failures.

Test your mains for proper earthing.

Do you get a blue-screen error prior to the system shutdown?

nope didn't get any blue-screen

it seems short circuit is the culprit of this. I have bread board my pc without the gpu and it works fines for few hours. Then i attached some tapes in my standoffs and around my psu before putting it all the my case, and as of now they are still running

I believe it should be fixable. usually in short circuits the only component that failed could have taken the damage. Your GPU might still work. The story is a bit different for your Motherboard PCI-E port and its supporting components, but it might still work.

If your GPU is within warranty get it replaced. If not, you can still give it a try for repairing.

my gpu is fine, it is still running until now i played games now and then
