Asus prime b450m-k and Ryzen 3 2200g

I recently bought the start of a new machine as a sort of upgrade.

This is not my first time building a pc and as such i know where things go, but it has been a while.

The spec i bought is
- Ryzen 3 2200g GMU
- Asus prime b450m-k motherboard
- 8GB (1x8GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, PC4-19200 (2400), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 16-16-16-39, XMP 2.0, 1.2V

I am using my existing PSU which is an AXP 630watt PSU (AXP-630p12p)

I have also tested with a Corsair VX450W (CMPSU-450VX)

problem i am having is that i get NO POST screen or any beeps or buzzes or any noise of any sort.

When powered on, the HDD (if connect) spin up, and all lights and fans spin up. The motherboard has an Orange LED strip which also lights up but has different effects depending on the PSU.
- With the AXP PSU, the light comes on and stays on and solid.
- With the Corsair the light slowly blinks (i can only put this down to not enough power)

I have sent everything back to where i bought it from and they have test everything individually and as a whole unit and have reported that there is nothing wrong and everything works 100% which means that the parts are fine and the only thing i could be is the PSU. However the AXP i have been using for a long time on other systems and seems to work perfectly fine.

There should be no BIOS issue since the Prime B450M-K was meant to have been developed for the Ryzen 3 2000 series, and even if there is, i can't get past the POST to be able to check it or do anything with it.

at this stage, i am at a loss what the issue could be. Do i need a new PSU? is it something else something i am missing?

I have no GPU because the 2200g is meant to have inbuilt graphics support which is why i went for it in the first place. or is it a case that needs to be turned on and i need a GPU to get up and running first?

Currently, i have nothing plugged into the motherboard other than the power and power switch, ram and GMP/CPU. Everything else is disconnected.

any help or suggestions is appreciated and welcomed.

Try reseating the RAM module or try a different slot.

You can also try starting the system outside of the case(it's possible that something is shorting inside the case) ... on the motherboard box.

Check again if the cables are properly seated.

Start with the HDDs unplugged.

You also don't need a separate GPU, because you have an APU.

If that doesn't work... I'm suspecting the PSU to be the problem since every component was tested and known working on its own

Thanks for the reply.

I will give some of that a try.

I can't see how there could a short in the case since its the same case and same PSU i was using up until recently, but as i said ill try taking it out and see if there is just in case.

HDD's are currently unplugged as it is so no fear with that.

I have tried the RAM in both slots (only 2 slots) with no joy

one thing is that the board has the "ATX power connectors (24-pin EATXPWR, 8-pin EATX12V)"
Do i need to connect to both of them? So there is the 24 pin connector but there is also a separate 8 pin connector which i thought was only for bridging GPU's

now the 630watt PSU only has the ability to connect to the 24pin, but the 450watt has both the 24pin and the 8 pin connectors. however, if i use the 450 with or without the additional 8 pin i just get an orange flashing light.

Wait... you didn't plug in the CPU power basically?
Your 630W only has the 4 pin but you can still plug that in.
The 8 pin connector should actually be a 4+4 pin, but even a 4pin CPU power connector will work.

Your CPU wasn't being fed that's why it doesn't start

That's how the 4+4 pin looks

https://www.google.ro/search?q=4%2B4+pin+cpu&client=ms-android-huawei-rev1&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwio1qrokc_eAhUQDewKHdo4DLwQ_AUoAXoECA0QAQ&cshid=1542035484621&biw=360&bih=600#imgrc=kmBLfZPmu1TwrM

Even if you have a single 4 pin connector like the one in the left of the picture it will still work. Just plug it into the motherboard on the side that matches with the connector.... the other 4 pins are for additional power and your ryzen 3 won't need it.

ok thanks ill give that a try. so it needs both the 24in and 4/8 pin power plugged into it?

this is the 630 watt psu - https://www.cnet.com/products/axp-simplepower-axp-630p12p-power-supply-630-watt/specs/

ok things are a little different to what i remember. :/

thanks for the help ill give it a try.

Yes you'll need to plug in the 4 pin into the 8 pin CPU power slot on the mobo.

https://www.google.ro/search?q=8+pin+cpu+power+slot&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiBs6CAoM_eAhWCC-wKHcNtA2MQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=948#imgrc=DAN06ybMr0_waM:

You'll need to insert the 4 pin cable into the 4 pins on the right side of the motherboard connector, like on that picture.

Basically you were powering only the motherboard but not the CPU.
