I have a Gigabyte GA G41M Combo motherboard with 2 hard drives Seagate Barracuda 80GB and Western Digital Green 500GB. My Operating system Windows 7 is installed on the 80 GB hard drive. Now the problem i have started to face is that my windows boots up only if i connect the 80 gb hard drive. When i connect both the hard drives together, the windows gets stuck at the Starting Windows screen and refuses to boot up. Earlier they were connected together and worked fine. Pls help me i want to upgrade this system for gaming

Solution
Your windows is fine, since it boots from 80GB drive.
You have to fix file system errors on 500GB drive. Be ready, that it may be damaged and un-repairable.

It appears both in the bios and the hardware components list that appears right after we turn on our pc.

If the computer boots with that drive, run the manufactures testing software to see what the results are.

On connecting both the drives together, i never reach the account selection screen so i can't install any software and test it

Can i first boot the os frok the 80gb hard drive and then connect the 500gb hard drive after the os boots up. Would it work?

That would work only, if hot-plug feature is enabled in BIOS for sata port, where 500GB drive is connected (this feature may not be available on every motherboard).

Why can't you boot from windows installation media instead?
