Hello Tom's

First things first,
I'm asking about thermal pads NOT tim.
These are the cards I'm working on.
HD 6850
HD 6870
GTX 8800

After looking at videos and doing research on the interweebs, I feel confident about the process.
The one thing that is completely unclear and difficult for me to find is what type of thermal pad and the thickness.
This information is not passed along in any of the videos or information I've found.
It would seem that you're expected to already know this information.
I don't ! this information is critical and most important to the success of the project as I don't want to fry these cards from the lack of this information.

I hope I have been clear in my Question and am looking forward as always to the answers from the neat, cool and brillant people of Tom's.
Thank You all very much for the answers.

This question is a month old now, but just in case you're still looking:

For replacing thermal pads on graphics card VRMs and memory I recommend Gelid GP-Extreme pads above most others - though they are a little pricey they offer even greater thermal conductivity than most pastes at 12W/mk (though you should still stick to paste on the die).

Thickness is a bit of a crapshoot. The most reliable solution is to check waterblock manufacturers (such as EKWB) for installation instructions, which will usually include information about the required thermal pads. Unfortunately this isn't 100% reliable (due to manufacturer variations), so I always order some extra 0.5mm pads to fill gaps where needed.
I get the point of your question, but in all honestly I have used Noctua NT-H1 or Thermal grizzly Kryonaught on every single card I've ever had a reason to remove the cooling system on and in all cases the results were better than good. Just a thought. I totally understand if you want to see if anybody has pad specific information for you. They might, it just isn't something I've ever heard mentioned in conversations on refreshing the TIM/Pads. Everybody I know just uses a really good thermal paste.
