Hello I just bought a 2700x and a CH6 mobo. I heard that I could flash the bios without memory or cpu. I do have a question on the process. After I flashback update the bios. Do I need to disconnect the power supply from the motherboard before installing the cpu chip? If so what would be the safest way to power down the mobo without damage? Would I just need to turn off the power supply switch?

Thank you for reading

Yes, you can do that. That motherboard has a start button on the motherboard. So try turning it off there first. You want the power disconnected and the capacitors discharged before trying to install the processor.

Or you can wait until the system is installed and update the BIOS then. That would be my suggestion unless the R7-2700X isn't supported by the current BIOS.

Hi rangerduck007 :)

Flashback can be done via the rear I/O panel and just needs power to the MB. As you say even without memory or CPU and no need to access Bios.
Obtain the latest Bios 6201 from ASUS Support, extract and rename the file to C6H.CAP and to an empty USB stick formatted to FAT32.

Once done just power down from Windows normally and turn off the PSU.
Install the 2700x CPU then insert the USB into the correct USB port on the rear I/O panel as per page 2.13 in your Manual. Press the Flashback button for 2-3 secs and it will begin to blink. It will take a min or so to complete and if it stops with a continually lit blue light then the process has been unsuccessful and you need to figure what went wrong. Usually a bad USB not formatted correctly or Bios file not named correctly.
Once it stops blinking then your done. Reboot the system, access Bios, make your changes as need be.

But at that point Windows isn't loaded yet (no CPU or RAM or Drives).
