I've opened my desktop once seeing whats necessary to add a new 1tb ssd but my desktop only has 2 HD slots/bays. one bay is my current main drive and the other is a back up drive, my goal is to add a new ssd to work as another day to day drive for gaming and such. i know i would probably need a new power supply which is fine but do i need a new Motherboard? what exactly do i need to do to add a new ssd?

My model is the "G11CD" by asus

Your motherboard has 4 sata ports so you do have a spare there.
A ssd takes negligible power so that is not an issue.
You could simply lay the ssd down on the bottom of the case and duct tape it there.

But, I think a better option would be to buy an external USB HDD enclosure for your backup drive.
You want a backup to be disconnected from the pc in case of a virus, ransomware attack, or even simply user error.

Put your new ssd in it's place.

What are the parts here?
Case, motherboard, PSU?

yeah, as long as you have a spare SATA port on the motherboard and a spare SATA power connector on the PSU you can plug it in and make it fit somewhere.
I attached mine with stick on velcro strips to the bottom of the case for a while, worked fine and the fat velcro leaves a little air gap.

You could also buy an enclosure and move your backup drive out of the case and use and adpater to mount the SSD there.
