Good day folks,

While I'm new to the forums i have been using the site as a main source of finding product reviews, solutions etc. My sincere congratulations for you efforts.

I would like to ask your advice on how to upgrade my gaming computer with a budget of 500-1000 euros (USD would be fine too). Will that money provide a significant increase to the performance ? Which parts would you recommend i should chose to upgrade ? (I feel like my CPU is a bit outdated). Kindly mention the upgrade benefits that the new parts will provide (example being fps, smaller loading times, overall performance etc)

If i had to chose between upgrading CPU and GPU, which of the two would you suggest ?

I mostly enjoying playing first person shooters like PUBG, CSGO, Destiny 2 etc, World of Warcraft
but i also enjoy to chill with open world games on high graphics.

My current specs:

OS: Windows 10 x64
Mobo: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon
CPU: Intel i7-6700k
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070
Monitor 1: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q
Monitor 2: Benq GW2760s
RAM: 2 x 16GB CRUCIAL BALLASTIX DDR4 2400
SSD: Samsung 250GB Evo
HDD: WD 2TB Blue SATA
Power supply: Corsair CX750M
Cooler: Phanteks TC 14S Black
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400

Appreciate your feedback, thank you in advance.

Your specs are good. If you are experiencing frame rate issues, it's likely due to poor optimization in the games, or high background CPU usage. However, unlike most people here, I do think you could upgrade your CPU. Many newer games are transitioning to using 6 cores, and are more CPU demanding than before. I would upgrade to a 6-core CPU, such as the i7-8700K.

I recommend 6 cores not only for the increase in core counts with games however. Please note that Windows is ALWAYS doing something, and having more cores/threads helps keep windows background noise to a minimum, as well as any other applications that you have running in the background. While 4 cores is considered sufficient to most people, I consider it the minimum, where as...
All the hardware requirements of the games you listed are well within your spec. Destiny 2 is probably the most hardware demanding of what you listed, and even it only requires a GTX 970 and i5-2400, and that's recommended spec, not minimum. Your CPU can easily handle games like that.

What games are demonstrating performance problems, and how?

Thanks for replying Frag Maniac,

No particular problem really, just some times i get fps drops on ultra settings.

Moreover, im left with some cash in hand and i thought you know maybe upgrade something due to black Friday sales.

What would you upgrade in my system within the budget ?

Thanks again

Frag Maniac is correct. Considering your monitor is 1440p165hz capable there is room for FPS improvement but at a high cost. I would recommend that you keep your current CPU, it will be fine for 1440p. A RTX2080 would give you a decent boost in FPS if you really want to spend the money. Selling your current card would help also.

More specific please. What FPS is it dropping to and how long does it stay there? What FPS are you averaging? If using Vsync or framerate cap, is it mostly staying at 60?

When FPS drops, does it cause freezing, stuttering, or lag? There are some games that just do this even on fairly high spec. I just want to make sure it's actually a hardware problem so you don't waste money on components you don't need.

You also need to make sure nothing in the way of lack of maintenance or 3rd party software is causing this. You need to keep your HDDs defragged and keep 15% (of actual capacity) free. You also need to make sure you are malware free and have no 3rd party programs running scans or such periodically while gaming.

Thanks again,

Its not really a problem, the games play fine. Just thought if i can improve the gaming experience a bit by changing my CPU, which i feel is a bit outdated with its just 4 cores (again i might be wrong since i am rather beginner in hardware).

Also will my setup handle gaming + streaming smoothly ?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, this would mean you would have to upgrade your motherboard. There are some good, great value Z370 motherboards on the market for around $100. The 8700K would be another $350. If you are not willing to make that leap, I suggest you figure out some optimization on your end.
- SSD TRIM, HDD Defrag
- Power Plan - High Performance/Highest Bitsum Performance
- Advanced System Settings Performance - Highest Performance (Aero Effects. Minimal modern performance gain)
- Disk Cleanup Utility

Overclock?

Thanks for the suggestion,

If i go with Intel build, will my Phanteks TC 14S Black cooler handle an OC if-9700k ?
