I have two combos of cpu/gpu to go after with a new monitor I'm buying today that is 27" 1440p and 144hz.

That would be the Ryzen 5 2600 + EVGA RTX 2070 XC or the i7-8700k + MSI GTX 1070 TI DUKE.

Like I said this would be at 1440p so I don't know how big of a difference the CPU would make. I like the RTX 2070 obviously, but for higher refresh rate I don't know if it would be better to stick to the i7. I know I wouldn't be able to do 144hz consistently with every game, but which combo would be better in general and for the long term (for the Ryzen I can upgrade when Ryzen 3 comes out next year as well since I'm getting an X470 ASUS Prime board. Intel I would be stuck with for a few years at least).

Main games I play/want to play are:
World of Warcraft (most important one. Which would be better for this?)
Battlefield V & 1
Rainbow Six Siege
Fortnite
PUBG
Tomb Raider games
Grand Theft Auto V
Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Hard work simply because the difference between the 2070 & 1070ti & the difference between the 8700k & ryzen 2600 regarding fps at that res is going to be very very similar.

I think either system is going to give you a very similar experience personally.

The 8700k is going to be capable of 144fps a lot of the time but at 1440p the 1070ti isn't unless you drop settings considerably.

Vice versa the ryzen tops out about 120fps but the 2070 is probably going to be capable of more

Either combo is solid but I think at 1440p the 2070 would take precedent for me
