Ok so I have a gigabyte z390 ud motherboard and I was reading through the manual. I have two 8gb sticks of ram but was confused about putting it in the first channel or the second channel. Maybe someone could explain what also SR/DR is too as that was mentioned.

Your motherboard manual shoulds (usually) make it clear were to slot your RAM modules in order to activate dual-channel mode or higher. Some motherboard models even color code their RAM slots so that you know where to pair them up in the correct way.

Ok, so I've just googled your motherboard manual. It states that in order to run your memory in Dual-Channel, your going to have to slot both your rams in specific slots, specifically either A1 and B1 or A2 and B2 in order to activate dual channel. Don't worry about the fact on how it states the memory sockets are divided between two channels, just follow the table under "Dual Channel Memory Configurations Table".
