[SOLVED] Should I enable AHCI before cloning my HDD to SSD?

Hello everyone,

I've ordered a SSD and it is on its way. I was wondering when should I do the AHCI change after I install it. I am currently running a 1TB HDD and I am planning to clone my drive to the SSD. If I change it directly without a fresh install of windows, would that ever be a problem?

I am currently using a Gigabyte H270 HD3.

Thanks in advance.

In my experience once you've installed Windows in Non-AHCI mode you can't change it. Doing so will probably cause your PC to crash on start up. At least this is how it was with Windows 7. I've always used AHCI since then so, I haven't tried it with Windows 10.
