Solution

You are not subject to the problem of an incompatible BIOS on the motherboard out of the box.

The 2000 series Ryzen processors would not boot with the shipped motherboard BIOS (around February 2018). They required an "AMD boot kit" to enable the motherboard for use. That was basically a first generation Ryzen (like yours) that was installed on the motherboard . Then the motherboard BIOS was updated. Then the boot kit CPU was removed and the new processor installed.

But you do need to update the BIOS to fix ongoing problems with Ryzen processors in general.
The problem in early 2018 was for second generation Ryzen processors. The 2000 series Processors were incompatible with the motherboard BIOS that it was shipped with.

So with your first generation R5-1600x, you were never at risk. But you will need to update the BIOS. There have been a very many BIOS updates since your processor was released.

At this point, all Ryzen motherboards should be updated on install and periodically afterwards. This is to improve stability and fix problems.
