Given the age of the CPU, you're likely limited to a used board anyway.

With that, I'd opt for the cheapest compatible motherboard available.
Anything with chipset B75, H61, H67, H77, P67, Z75 or Z77.

If you already have the CPU (and RAM), it's probably worth spending $50 on a board vs a whole new platform.

If boards are going to cost you >$100, or you don't already have DDR3 (sounds like you do have the CPU), then a more modern platform would probably be the smartest route to go.

that xeon would handle things fine. very fine, i recommend atleast 8gb of ddr3 since its a server cpu which has a lot of ram slots why not bump it up to 32? future proof for a while and a 1050ti (4gb) or 1060 (6gb) would be a fine choice for 1080p gaming or 1440p. if used market is your thing i recommend 760 4gb. the rog version is a great choice but consumes a lot of power and is large and bulky, i would buy a 1 fan version (mini itx) version of 1050ti or 1060, if 1440p-4k is your thing go for 1070 mini. i think zotac makes one!
