So heres my Rig right now:

GFX- Sapphire Dual-X R9 270X OC

CPU- AMD Fx -6300 six core 3.5GHz

MOBO- ASUS M5A97 R2.0

RAM- Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3

Windows 64bit

So I know i need a knew processor and im looking to get the Ryzen 5 2600 (or x). If i was to buy a new processor im pretty sure id also need to change my motherboard and ram. As I stated before I play competitive Fortnite so im looking for specific recommendations that will give me the best performance. My budget is around 300$ (Christmas) and im looking to get the most out of what i can afford.

So Im going to get the Ryzen 2600 but ive been told i need to change my mobo and ram. does anyone have any specific recommendations that arnt too pricey for playing fortnite?

Solution
That's right. AMD's Ryzen CPUs use AM4 chipset, which means u need a new Mobo and that new Mobo will only run om DDR4 RAM.

Have a look at this.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor ($158.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - B450 AORUS ELITE ATX AM4 Motherboard ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($72.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $321.87

However, in all honesty, I would suggest you upgrade the GPU first. You will get a much higher FPS boost as your current CPU is strong enough to run Fortnite. Unless you're streaming, in which case you will need the CPU upgrade first, I suggest you have a look at the RX580 8Gb that's currently on sale for roughly 200$ on Amazon.

Also, ive heard that fortnite is CPU heavy so on pcbuild subreddit a lot of people have been telling me to focus on the cpu instead of gpu. but you think i should go for gpu?

Games will always use GPUs first. And then use CPUs.

Your current CPU is clocked at 3.5Ghz which is already pretty high. Since it's an older architecture, it will bottleneck the RX 580 a little bit. But you'll still get a much higher FPS boost by upgrading your GPU first rather than the CPU first.

The way GPUs and CPUs work is like this:
A GPU has a maximum FPS it can output.
A CPU has a maximum FPS it can output.
Whichever is lower in performance, that will be your actual FPS in a game. This is called a bottleneck. Now there is always a bottleneck in every system, question is: how much?
Right now, your bottleneck is almost non-existent. Meaning that upgrading your CPU will let you gave a small FPS boost. But if you uograde your GPU, the FPS boost will be much higher.

Have a look at this:
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-580-vs-AMD-R9-270X/3923vs2188

And then look at this:
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-2200G-vs-AMD-FX-6300/m441832vs1555

The single core speed, which is what games use in CPUs is 30pts better on the R3 2200G. So if you uograde your CPU, you might get an increase of FPS of 30%. But because your GPU will bottleneck your new CPU, you will probably get a 10-20% increase in FPS.

If you upgrade your GPU, you can get two times more FPS, which is a 100% increase. But because your FX CPU will bottleneck it, you will probably get a 60-70% increase in FPS. Which is much higher. This is why I recommend upgrading the GPU first.

Hmmm, Thanks for the answer. The issue i have with my pc and fortnite is that i get good frames ,100-120 normally (bc i have it capped at 120)but in towns itll get down to 50-60. But the issue is that i get like little freezes or stutters where my game freezes and drops froms for like 1/10th of a second and it constantly happens when i turn and face a city or a place where a lot of players are. My connection is not the source and i just reinstalled Windows 10. I just figured out my monitor runs at 60hz. would the source of this issue be my monitor or would it be GPU or any other hardware?
