[SOLVED] i5 8600k vs i5 9600k

Hello everyone, im going to build a new pc and i was wandering whats the best combo cpu/mobo.. Should i go with the (i5 8600k / asus prime z370-a) for 455€ or the (i5 9600k / msi mag z390 tomahawk) for 481€?? The 30 bucks more ain't a problem.. too low of a difference in my region!

The 9600k has a 300mhz higher boost clock than the 8600k. Other than that, there is no difference. If you are going to overclock, then the 300mhz wont matter. If you are not going to overclock, then the 300mhz will matter a little.

In the end, there is not much of a difference, but for $30 more, I'd probably go with the newer model because your only talking about $30.

I had the same dilemma and ended up going with the 8600k. The difference was about 40 dollars at the time that I bought it. I have it running at 4.8 GHz with a stable overclock. I’ve heard of the 9600k being able to reach 5Ghz so if you want to reach that figure go for the 9600k. Depending on your graphics card however you will not see any difference in games. Both CPUs can easily keep up with a high end graphics card like a 1080Ti or a new RTX card. I run mine with a GTX 1080 and mostly hit 60 FPS at 1440p at high/very high settings. I also went with a Z390 board for future upgrade potential but how long Intel continues with this socket is anyone’s guess.

seriously....no big difference in terms of felt performance. But if you go with the Z390 board you would be a little bit more future proof if you ever want to switch processor in the futures.....

If you are gonna overclock you may want to spring for the Cryorig H5 as the H7 will only work for a mild OC.

I know you have already purchased but will say I think you made the right choice. The soldered heatspreader of the 9600k should help temps and overclocking at a price that is insignificant compared to the total build.

Clock to clock the 9600k is actually slower than the 8600k since the core interconnect speeds are slower due to being a cut down 9900k. This also means the heat dissipation is pretty similar to the 8600k despite being soldered.
The 8600k no doubt would have been the better choice here.
