My cpu temp is really high even without overclocking.

Actually my cpu temp goes real high while playing games. It even becomes 90c to 100c. I know that is dangerous. So i overviewed the bios. The intel manufacturer says that it has a base clock of 100mhz and a turbo boost of 3400mhz. Now what i understand by these are that the base clock is the minimum clock speed that my cpu will have while on load and turbo clock is the clock speed that is auto overclocked under product guidance if the temp is suitable with more headrooms. But from somewhere i heard that a cpu can auto overclock even more than the turbo overclock mhz if the temp is suitable. So i think that by any means of auto overclocking, i should not have a 90c temp. Because it is under auto management. But why do i have these temps. Is it that i somehow manually overclocked more???(note that my bios does not show any manual over clocking). Or is it that my air flow is bad?

Intel core I7 6700@3.40ghz
Plz help. I will be very thankful

Solution
It's only a 65 watt CPU with a max temp rating threshold of 71c

https://ark.intel.com/products/88196/Intel-Core-i7-6700-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4-00-GHz-

Try updating the BIOS first, then clear the CMOS settings to set back to default.

Test again, if you still get the same results, then you're looking at either poor airflow, bad CPU fan, or improper installation of thermal compound between the CPU and HSF assembly.

#1 clean out your pc from dust #2 make sure your cooler is fully mounted and the thermal paste isn’t dried up #3 replace cooler\thermal paste.(if necessary) #4 not really needed but check for bios update.

Last thing, check on task manager on what applications are mainly used while you game.
