Hey guys. So here's my situation. I currently have an AMD FX 6300 in my PC with some generic crappy cooler. I'm looking to get an AMD FX 8350 to replace it until I can just get a new board and new CPU later on. I measured my current CPU cooler and it measures 8cm perfectly. Does anybody know the size of the stock 8350 cooler? I'm not too sure if it will even fit in my build. I'll add pics so you can see what I'm talking about.

As you can see, I have a microATX board and space is a concern.

Solution
The FX8350 stock heatsink is larger and requires the larger cooler as it puts out more heat. From what I can find its 3.66 x 3.94 x 2.63 inches and looks to be much deeper than the FX6300 box fan.

It should fit in that build although you might want to move that fan up top as its not in an ideal place anyways, it is probably pulling air from the fan making the CPU fan not work as well. If anything make it an intake fan to pull cool air in to the CPU fan.

So you think it would fit? Alright. I'm going to give it a go and see what happens. Also, I never put much thought into that Noctua fan up top, thanks for the input there. If it doesn't fit with that fan in place, I may just replace my front intake with that fan, since it's definitely better than what I currently have for my front intake. Thanks!

So I'm starting to see posts about my board throttling with an AMD FX 8350 installed? The 8350 is going to be a temporary thing to give my PC a boost until I can make the switch to Intel, but is it expected to throttle? Bad?

I have a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 REV 6 in this build. The CPU support list says it can handle up to an 8370 and the description on Gigabyte's website says it can handle 125W TDP CPUs. BUT, I'm reading otherwise. Hmm.....

Yea that is a lower end board and the power system is probably able to handle a FX 8350 but not properly handle it. That means you should expect some throttling so you might not have it at maximum clock speed. Thats the downside to lower end boards. They build them with components that can just barely handle certain TDP parts. But they cannot handle them properly.

Well shoot..... I know most newer games out there use the 8350 as a reference for recommended specs, and I wonder if the 8350 would get me at least a solid 60FPS in those games (my other specs are up to par). Yeah this board is on the cheaper end, and not the greatest. Some people say it works fine and others say it throttles. Do you personally think I'd see an improvement over my current FX 6300 that is a 95w CPU? I'm really hoping to replace my board in the next year possibly anyway.

If you can get it to maintain stock setting without throttling probably. Mostly you need to be able to cool the VRMs well enough so they don't overheat. They are the ones covered by a small heatsink next to the CPU.

Most games will benefit from higher clocked cores and I think the 8350 was clocked higher if I can remember correctly.
