Hi guys,
Was planning to upgrade 1 part of my computer 1st but cant decide to upgrade cpu 1st or gpu..

Using gigabyte gaming 3 6600k
Gigabyte 1070
16gb ram
Asus predators x34 4k

I running game on 4k and it seems fps hanging ard 50 to 60 while i wanted to have 90fps gsync

I do stream/record sometime while gaming..
Wanted to either upgrade to 8700kor 9700k (since it only 40$ difference) and 1080ti

Any recommendation?
Thanks

This is just my opinion, but I think if it were my system, the quad core i5 is already showing it's age I think quickly. Will it still play? Yes. Quite well on many titles.

I think you are going to start to see a shift toward multi core being the norm. That i5 is equivalent to an i3 today. It seemed like there were reports of people having trouble with battlefield 1 for example with only a quad core.

I was looking at some videos on ryzen tonight actually. There are rumors that ryzen 3 next year, will be 6 core 12 threads, basically the higher end ryzen 5 now. Then ryzen 5 would supposedly be 8 core 16 threads. Ryzen 7 something like 12 core, 24 threads, and so on. Of course these are speculation.

However, you can see the...
But your goal is to hit 90fps with the GPU and since it won't be able to do it easily, the FPS is kind of part of the question.

And upgrading the CPU by itself isn't going to net you the extra 30fps you're looking for.

So basically the answer is to upgrade to the GTX 1080ti and realize you're not hitting 90fps at 4K easily.

Nonono..i will tweak the settings example low settings to increase the fps...but the fps isnt the main concern, i just not sure to upgrade the cpu or gpu 1st ...haha sorry to express my question wrongly

I still think I'd go cpu/board. 1070 is still respectable and you can set your platform up for when you make the jump. Plus a tech friend of mine was saying there were reports of some of the 2070s and 2080s dying, so I know he was waiting until they iron things out. He's already got a 1080ti though lol.

You will not see much performance increase. But then when you upgrade to 2080 ti it will incease moreso than if you went immediately upgrade with 1080 ti then later on upgrade cpu/mobo.

If you are going 1080 ti either way, then id go ahead and get that first

However, you can see the market moving that direction. Intel's lineup has gone to even the i5 being 6 core parts as mainstream. So they are seeing something as well.

All of that said, your current i5 is a good cpu. No question. I don't think you are going to see a huge difference either way with whatever upgrade you choose.

However, in my thinking, your gtx 1070 is probably equal to a new 2060 performance wise. So that is serviceable imo. In my mind, I would do the cpu/motherboard upgrade. But if you do that, I would go for the best upgrade you can. So maybe i7 8700k or better. Or you could wait for the new ryzen chips to drop next year and see what those offer.

If you did the upgrade though, you could sell your old cpu/board, save the money, then when you have a little more, you could even get rid of your card, and maybe buy a 2070 or 2080.

Again, this is my opinion. You could also upgrade the GPU now, then see what the new ryzen chips look like, and what Intel brings to the table as well. So either way you have good options. I just feel like your cpu is a limiting factor at some point that you'll want to deal with.

Yea was looking at either 8700k or 9700k (i7) but suddenly i felt even if i upgrade theres not much performance different....that the reason that confuse me whether to upgrade CPU or GPU as theres not a big performance gain so why should i go spend those cash haha

If you were going to upgrade cpu/board, wait a few months. Ryzen 3000 series should be out sometime next year. So you might consider that. They should have a bump in ipc, but look on YouTube, there are some slides going around saying the new ryzen 5 will be the same as the current ryzen 7, and that ryzen 7 will be 12 core/24 threads. Saw something that they release a ryzen 9 whatever that may be.
