Hi,
Due to the implementation of the CPU-hungry HTML5 all over the internet, my CPU was quite often running at 100% even while watching youtube videos (1080p), I tried to slightly overclock my old machine with Core2Duo E8200. After messing with it a bit, some bluescreens and raising CPU voltage, trying not to overclock my RAM etc I got to about 3,2GHz and 1,315V (probably needs a touch more) and before I tried the stress test I noticed one thing - my internet connection was gone. Cable was in, router was fine and so on. I tried going back to the default clocks and ... problem was gone.
Can someone explain me how can it be related? It happened out of nowhere when I tried slightly higher voltage at 3,2 GHz and that was the only change. Ot am I just panicking?
Also I tried to keep my RAM at stock 800MHz (Geil PC2-6400, 2x2GB 800MHz) so I set PCIE Frequency to 100 and with FSB Frequency at 400 there was an option to set DRAM freq. to 800MHz (two other options were higher clocks). I left DRAM voltage at auto since I'm not overclocking it - was it a good call?
Even though I noticed that DRAM timings changed from default 6-6-6-18 to 5-5-5-15 [EDIT. I checked the spec for Geil GB24GB6400 and it seems that 5-5-5-15 are the default timings, yet they're set to 6-6-6-18 by default by the motherboard]. Unfortunately my motherboard (Asus P5KPL-E, G31 chipset) doesn't seem to have an option to change it. Overall I see surprisingly little options after enabling the "Ai Overclock Tuner".
Any tips? Thanks.
