So I have a msi free sync monitor that is 1ms 144hz and I was wondering should I sell my Asus dual of gtx 1060 3gb and then buy a rx 580 8gb for the use of free sync or just buy a 1070 and which 1070 would be good don’t really care about astetics but as long as it’s quiet and cool

:I also have a i5 6500:

:12gb ddr4 1 g skill ripjaws and 1 patriots 4gb yes I know I shouldn’t mix ram but they both work with out any problems and they run at 2400mhz:

That’s pretty much it for performance

I disagree with this. FPS is not a consideration if you are staying at 1080p. You only need to shoot for 144 fps since you have a 144 hz monitor. Any higher and...
You'll want the 1070 for high refresh rate gaming at 1080p. The 580 would be the choice if you value freesync more than high framerate. In some games your i5 may limit how high your framerate can go no matter what card you buy.

I think an important factor to consider is the question of why you bought a freesync monitor if Nvidia cards are an option to you. If you didn't buy it for the freesync feature, or you didn't pay extra because it has freesync, that makes sense. But if freesync was a factor then it doesn't make sense that you'd be thinking about getting a 1070 now.

I disagree with this. FPS is not a consideration if you are staying at 1080p. You only need to shoot for 144 fps since you have a 144 hz monitor. Any higher and you will get screen tearing. The 1070 would be overkill and is better suited to 2k. Why pay $130 more for a card that you will not utilize to its full potential?

Also, AMD cards are performing better in dx12 than Nvidia's 10 series, so the difference between the two will shrink with time.
