I'm trying to swap out my old i5-4670K with a new 4790k, but for some reason I'm having a heck of a time getting it to post. After powering it on I get nothing (no video, no beep code, no BIOS) and the error code on the MOBO is 00, which means there is a problem with the CPU. I read online that the Z87 supports the 4790k so long as you update the BIOS to P2.30. I downloaded the BIOS from ASRock's support site and flashed the BIOS to P2.40 using the InstantFlash in their UEFI setup utility. CPU-Z (when booting the machine with the old CPU) and the UEFI utilty both read version p2.40 now.
I tried doing CMOS clear using the button on the MB, which didn't seem to do anything. I've removed the CPU and reinstalled it, which didn't help. I don't see any problems with the pins on the motherboard (especially since it works fine with the 4670k). I'm not sure what else to try now.
Anyone have any other ideas?
