So first off, I want to say that I wasn't sure which category to put this in, and so I thought this one would be the closest thing to be as related to my current stiuation.

So here's the situation. Currently I have an internet modem that is in the living room and my computer is in my room upstairs. I have a CAT6 ethernet outlet in that same room but isn't registered to any ethernet connection.

My purpose here is to ask what do I have to do to have my ethernet outlet to have connection where I can use ethernet and plug it into my computer.

If there's any photos, or any further information you need from me, please let me know.

That outlet has to be wired to the modem (or router if you have more than one system), so to start with you need to find out where the other end of that connection goes to and if it's connected to anything. Once you do that, you need to get that other connection hooked up to the router/modem or a switch that is connected to the router. Normally for in-wall Ethernet wiring, all the jacks would go to a patch panel somewhere, with a switch or router located at that point that connects it all to the internet equipment.
