Hey, I have a GTX 1080ti, and was wondering if I should upgrade my CPU from an i7 8700k, as it is only 3.4 GHz, or is this useless. Please let me know, and if you have any recommendations for a CPU if needed!

It depends what you use the PC for, different games can operate differently. Some more GPU bound and others CPU.
It also depends on the resolution you game at. If you're on a 1080p monitor this set up is perfect and anything more powerful not be utilised.

I run an i5-4690 and a GTX 1080. I can max out the new Tomb Raider on Ultra at 2K. Obviously some games are more CPU dependent, but unless you are running into any issues or performance dips, there's no real reason to upgrade, aside from keeping up with the Joneses.

You have the 8700k Only upgrade from that is as J_E_D_70 has posted the 9900k.
Gamewise its not really even an upgrade since they will both perfom just about the same.

And since you have the 8700k then you can overclock it. With a good cooler you can push 4,7 - 5,1 Ghz on all cores on most of the CPU`s depending on the silicone lottery for your CPU.

So my recommendation is NOT to upgrade. The 8700k is MORE than enough for ALL games out there today and in the near future.

3.7 base /4.7 turbo (slightly less all-core). It will turbo when there's a high load on the CPU

With a proper cooler, that's plenty of power.

Without framerates given, your post is of no use. Anyone can max out a games graphics settings. But if you're at low FPS it's not really a good situation.
