Have been upgrading my PC and I'm at a loss as the i7-4770 has arrived and isn't fitting, for reasons shown in the following pictures:
https://unsee.cc/02aec698/
On the board which the cpu is mounted, the... divets / indentations are in different locations.

Motherboard: gigabyte ga-h57m-usb3
CPU: Intel i7-4770 ( very old i5 760 until the issue is resolved)

Can anyone explain to me what's going on here. This motherboard is suppose to be compatible with the i7 line. Was the cpu mislabeled by the seller? Or did i misunderstand something and have to buy a new motherboard...

Thanks in advance

Solution
There are no motherboards that are compatible with "i7 line". There are only motherboards that are compatible with SPECIFIC sockets. i7-4xxx is socket LGA 1150. i7-6xxx is compatible with socket LGA 1151. Etc.

Your motherboard is an LGA 1156 socket. Your CPU is an LGA 1150 CPU. They are NOT compatible. For that CPU you need an LGA 1150 socket motherboard, which would be most probably either H87, H97, Z87 or Z97. There are also lower end chipsets which are LGA 1150 that will work with it such as H81 and B85.
