I'm currently getting in parts for a new build, and today one of the first pieces came in- the keyboard. It's an Red Dragon K552. It's cheap, it's good quality, and it's loud.

I gotta send it back or it'll drive my wife nuts.

Are there any decent non-mechanical (quiet) budget gaming keyboards that anyone can recommend? I've been looking around for one, but it seems like everything that isnt mechanical is made poorly or really expensive.

If it wasn’t for your budget id recommend the Razer Cynosa Chroma ($60 USD). It feels pretty nice and clicky (especially the space bar) and the lighting is incredible.

I ran into the exact same problem - loved the k552 but the clicky blues nearly caused a divorce!

Gave it away to a good friend of mine and I picked up this board, the GoFreeTech TKL w/ low-profile brown switches.

If you're a "key masher" the bottoming out will still be a bit loud so if that's the case just get a set of o-rings like these.

EDIT

Completely missed that lol - right idea but the click of blue switch itself is the main noise generator :)

Good summary of mech switch types here @ daskeyboard
