Cdo I need to purchase a modem and router with an all-in-one computer system in order for it to work? And if so, what else would I need?

Solution
For DSL, there are DSL modems and combination DSL modem/routers. With a DSL modem any standard router will work.

For Cable, you will need a cable modem and a standard router.

For WiFi use, you may need a WiFi adapter for the PC (if it isn't WiFi equipped).

And as before if you are using LAN, then you would need the ethernet cables to connect the modem to the router and for the connection of the router to the PC.
You need to determine what type of internet service that you will use. For example, you could have DSL service from the telephone company or you could have cable service from the TV cable company. That will determine the type of modem or modem/router to get. The internet provider may even provide the modem or modem/router.

The only other thing that you need to know if your PC has a LAN connection, WiFi connection, or none at all. It may need a NIC network interface card.

And lastly if you are going to use a LAN connection from the PC to the router, then you will need an Ethernet cable (or two).
