Motherboard/CPU upgrade following MOBO crash and OS reinstall

Hi everyone,

A couple of days ago my computer randomly turned off and wont turn back on (tried everything, PSU test, power switch test, new PSU, checking connections, trying to boot with bare-bones etc). Decided to invest in a new mobo/cpu and my question is how to go about dealing with windows when installing the new MOBO. Can I just plug and play the old SSD for the OS? If not, would I need a brand new SSD to "fresh install" windows on, or is there a way to overwrite the OS on my old SSD?(Specs below)

Original Build:
Intel Core I5-7600 (Gen 7)
Asus ROG Strix Z270F
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW
Corsair Vengence DDR4 2 x 8
Samsug 850 EVO 240GB SSD
Western Digital 1TB HDD

New Components:
Intel Core I5-8600K (Gen 8)
Replace Asus ROG Strix Z270F for Asus Strix Z390E

Solution
" Do you know if it is possible to only delete the OS files during the new install rather than wiping the drive?"

As far as I know....this isn't an option.

....but if your not sure what data is on the SSD....I'm thinking....how important can it be? right?

This is what I would do. I would build it all up with the SSD only. Don't connect the HDD.

Then when I fired it up....I would boot from the Windows install USB stick (or whatever way you are installing Windows).....it asks you if you want to format and partition the SSD.....I would choose yes and just make it one big partition and let Windows install.

Then I would reboot to make sure it worked.

Then I would add the HDD.

"Can I just plug and play the old SSD for the OS? "

I wouldn't do this. The old OS is expecting the old MB and I think this is asking for problems....even though I've seen it work.

I would do a fresh install on the current SSD (provided you have all the data off the current SSD that you want).

You can partition and format the drive at the beginning of the install.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I’m not sure what data was on the SSD (when compared to my HDD). Do you know if it is possible to only delete the OS files during the new install rather than wiping the drive?
