I now have my brand new Thinkpad P72 with the Intel Xeon E-2186M CPU. It's only running at 2.9 GHz. Obviously I purchased this workstation to run at 4.8 GHz. But I don't see anything in the BIOS or settings where I can enable Turbo Boost. Help!

The default speed for the Xeon E-2186M is 2.90 GHz so if your CPU is only running at that speed, Intel Turbo Boost has been disabled.

You can use software like ThrottleStop to enable and fully control how turbo boost works. It is freely available from TechPowerUp. Intel XTU is another program that might be able to help you with this problem.

I downloaded the latest version of CPU-Z and now I can see the CPU change dynamically; the previous version of CPU-Z just showed 2.9 GHz. I can now see that Turbo Boost is working properly. What a relief!
