a new CPU upgrade

Current Specs:
i5-4440
Gtx 970
16gb ram (DDR3)
WD green 5400 rpm hardrive

My Fps is dropping in games to 40 at high settings and cant keep up the 60fps mark.
Is my Cpu creating a bottleneck? If yes please suggest a good cpu which can improve the performance considerably.

I think your CPU and GPU are pretty well matched.

It would be interesting to see the % usages of each when you are getting 40 FPS.

Do you have Afterburner? If not I would download it and look at your usages.

This will give you an idea of what is bottlenecking what.

Please post you MB model. This will tell us what CPUs you can upgrade to.

When you run Afterburner.....you can monitor CPU and GPU temp on a graph as well as GPU and CPU usages on a graph. It's very handy.

For you MB....I think the fastest you can go with is a 4790K.....but that's a lot faster than what you have.

I see used ones going for just over $200 on Ebay.

It requires BIOS F7.

Your CPU requires F5....so you may need to upgrade the BIOS if you go to the 4790K....but that's no big deal.

I live in india, ebay here is a bit sketchy. I am ready to buy new hardware ( I know i will have to upgrade the ram and mob as well).

Gpu usage: 60%
Cpu 1: 95%
Cpu 2: 92%
Cpu 3: 94%
Cpu 4: 94%
CPU: 94%
Fps:60
The fps doesn't remain constant
Droped till 45 during intense combat and in certain areas of the map.

Cpu temp: 65-70°
Gpu temp: 55-60°
Using the stock Cpu cooler.

Currently in india i7-4790k is for rs 33000 (460$).
Any recent midrange options which can match the performance of that cpu (something like ryzen)

Well there you have it. The CPU is bottlenecking the GPU.

...and I just did a quick look and I think the 4790K is the fastest you can put in that MB.

Passmark multithread score of i5-4440 is 6498
Passmark multithread score of i5-4790K is 11180

It's almost twice as fast. That will make things right for you.

A non overclockable version will also do since i am not that interested in overclocking (and i guess I'll have to buy a separate cooler as well). I also have to get a new hdd and ssd since I am running out of storage and my OS is installed on a 5400 Rpm Wd green.

There are lots of them.....but the fastest that will go on YOUR motherboard I think is the 4790K.

If you decided to go with a different socket CPU....you would need a new motherboard.

....and if you were going to do that.....you pretty much could get whatever you wanted.

A Ryzen 5 2600 is a fast CPU.
Passmark multithread passmark score of 13533.
You will be able to run any GPU on the market with that CPU.
