My BIOS is seriously out of date. I am using an Asus ROG STRIX B350-F Gaming motherboard. Version is 3803 from 1/2018 - new version from 9/2018 v4024 … I remember back 10-15 years ago, this could be a hassle since you had a chance to "brick" the motherboard if something went wrong... not necessarily user error, but just a bad BIOS file or something.

My fear keeping me from updating is having that happen? With this board I have a choice to do it via the internet or with a USB stick... what do you suggest and is today's methods safer?

Solution
If your not having any issues , no need to update. Yes you can still brick the boards under all scenarios of updating the BIOS.

If it's running fine , not worth the risk.

I ask because i have a newer build (this August) that will crash to the BIOS when at idle after several hours. Normal use does nothing, but only when I leave the computer overnight or 12 hours or more, I wake up to the system sitting at the BIOS... I have to manually restart with the power switch... I have no memory issues (ran tests), no overheating, no overclock, everything is secure, all power options set, etc...
