Hello guys ! I bought today a new SSD ONLY 500gb mainly for windows and games...I installed windows defragmented HDD which I want to use for images, music and other things I don't use much but I want to ask you is there a way to change the way things change ? I suppose if I have windows on SSD and I for example download avast which needs to be in program files so I guess things like antivirus, winrar, ccleaner I must have on SSD because if I would have it on HDD it won't work ? Another question things and files I have on desktop automaticaly = stored on SSD ?

Solution
500GB is plenty for your OS and ALL applications, apart from games.
Your AV client and all those other utilities are tiny.
Those take up maybe 5GB total. Let them install to the SSD.

Your games will be far, far larger.

For other things like pics and video, you can redirect them to the other drive.

Pay attention to the OS. It makes a difference.

If you install Windows on the SSD, that will be the "default" storage space. If you want to save a file to the other drive, you will have to specifically select it (Save As...choose folder on HDD...etc.)

You can also install programs you don't use that often to the HDD. Most programs ask you where you want to install it (one of those screens that most people just click next next next on...). Again, if you choose a folder on the HDD, that's where the program will be stored and will run from.

so does that mean I can install avast antivirus on the HDD? Btw if I install for example chrome but then want to move it to HDD it won't work right ? I will have to uninstall and then install again ? Or games let's say I install 5 games and when I stop playing wow I will move the folder world of warcraft to HDD if I will try to run it won't work because there is a lot of things I won't move with that folder that makes the game to run?

I think you are on the right track.

Install all of your programs on the SSD. They will run faster from here.

"Another question things and files I have on desktop automaticaly = stored on SSD ? "

Yes because the "desktop" is a windows component and Windows will be on your SSD and the desktop will be on your SSD as well.

Yes but I am kinda scared 500gb won't be enough for me I thought it's easier but at least it will make my thing more to store the things I need to use because I heard if you use like 400gb from 500gb the SSD will run way slower...so what is the ideal free space I should aim for to have as fast as possible SSD?

There may be A LITTLE slowdown when the drive is full, but not enough to even think about.

500GB is a pretty decent size, I have one the same size and I have Windows, microsoft office suite, a few utility programs, browsers, and 3-5 games (depending on size...I usually uninstall games I'm not playing, only takes a few minutes to download/install for me). All big documents, pictures, movies, etc go on my HDD.

For a 500GB drive, don't go over 400GB.
