Specs:

GPU: Gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb

CPU: Intel Pentium g3258

RAM: DDR3 16gb

MOBO: MSI h81m-p33

I'm currently looking to upgrade my CPU because it's heavily bottle necking my GPU, but I don't know which CPU to get, it's confusing. I was looking into the i3-8100 but will it work with my MOBO since they're both LGA 1150 socket or does it need a different chipset MOBO? if it doesn't work can someone reccomend me a CPU that works with my MOBO and won't bottle neck my cpu?

Your MotherBooard only supports up to 4th genration intel cpus soo upgrading to a 8th gen i3 is not a valid option(extra thing... the 6th generation cpu's only support 300 series MB and are not bacwards compatible even if they have the same LGA 1150 socket) my opinion is if uo have the cash new mb new cpu and ram ddr 4 preferably

Ok, thank you for clearing that up. I'm kind of on a budget right now so is there a CPU that won't bottle neck my GPU and will fit my MOBO?

Thanks for the reply, I'm new to this site so don't know much about the credibility of users and such. Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't buying used parts such as a CPU a risk do to wear and tear of lifespan (depends on who you buy from ik) I've never bought used parts, is it recommended?

i would follow feelinfroggy's advice and go with a 4770 ...buying used is a completely viable option just make sure everything is fine and works properly.

Ok, thanks a lot guys. I'm just concerned because it retails online for around $400 and he's selling for $125 so I don't want to have last like 3-6 months before it breaks down and or slows.

It retailed at $400 when it was new. It is a discontinued chip. They dont make them anymore and for some strange reason Intel CPUs never go down in price.

As for buying used and the lifespan, I would not worry too much about a used locked CPU. CPUs can be damaged by improper overclocking or running at very high temps for extended periods of time. But a locked CPU (4770) cant be overclocked, which also makes it harder to hit higher temps.

There is always a risk buying used, but I have had a lot of good luck. To get similar performance, you would have to spend 3 times that amount buying new because you would need a new platform (mobo, RAM, CPU). I would not advise buying a new 4770 because for that price there are better options.

But $125 is a no brainer in my opinion and I would jump on it if I were you. It will be a big improvement over what you currently have.
