So I've somehow managed to kill 3 boards in the past 24 hours and I can't pinpoint the issue at all.

Title, I'm super discouraged from working with used hardware after this.

Hi, so I bought 3 X58 motherboards and 1 X79 motherboard over the weekend and I tested them. When I breadboarded them, they worked, but in an actual system build, the machine would not POST. I initially used a 650W PSU for the first two boards and the voltages appeared to check out. However, I switched over to using another 750W PSU that I used to breadboard the boards and still those turn up with no results. I asked Reddit after I killed 2 boards, they told me to replace the PSU, which I did in time for my 3rd board.

So here's what actually happens each time I try to boot up the system with the 650W:
I turn on the psu to the system
Board lights up just fine
I press the power button, fans spin and I receive no error code/beeps
When I try to plugin a light up keyboard, the lights flash for a split second then immediately remain off (possibly a short is occurring somewhere? but in 4 different boards? im utterly vexed.)
I take out some memory and clear cmos, and I get the same result
I have no memory and i get the same result
I have no cmos battery and I get the same result
I have no 4-pin ATX and no 8-pin CPU and i get the same result

At the end of the day my wallet is empty, I'm now down to 1 final X58 board.
What do?

Have all these been inside the same case? Maybe something is contacting the motherboards where it should not be touching, like a standoff screw in the wrong place grounding out the board. I'm just trying to think outside the box here.
