Hello. I have received a tower from a business that is closing. They gave it to me without a power supply. It is an ultra-slim tower, so it requires an external power supply. I don't want to "wing it" and put the wrong supply in. I can't figure out WHICH model it is!!!

Details:
HP Compaq Elite 8300 Ultra-Slim Desktop
"Product Number": QV997AV

The problem is, apparently they made these towers (with the same model number) with integrated graphics and others with standalone graphics, and they also made them with at least two different Core-i5 Processors (2.9 and 3.2 Ghz, quad core I believe). I can't turn it on to figure out which components are inside, in order to figure out the power supply I need (120w? 135w? 180w?)......without the power supply. So you can see my paradoxical situation. Please help.

you can look at the back of the case to see if there is a gpu installed. there will be outputs at the bottom. if one is not there, then only the ones from the motherboard will be available. that's pretty much all you need to know. if it has a discrete gpu, then get the larger power supply. if it does not, then the smaller one is enough.

remember though that even if you get the larger psu and don't need it, the system will still only use the power it needs. having some headroom does not force the pc to use the extra power. it's no different than putting a 600w psu into a mid-tower when it only really needs 300w. that extra power capacity just sits there unused.

so long as the power brick you get is made for that pc, then you're good to go. so if there is any doubt, then get the larger one and know you're all set :)

So we're saying here that I only need the 180 watt if it has discrete graphics, correct? I think some of these systems run on 120w (cheaper to buy too), but I'll get the 135w to be safe so my girlfriend's apartment doesn't catch fire. Thank you.

I am ordering it off of Amazon, if I don't come back and ask more questions assume it worked correctly.
