I recently purchased a Logitech G29 steering wheel and played it with forza horizon 4. It was all great but i noticed that i can shift gears with my shifter without even stepping on my pedal clutch. I wanted to only change gears when i step first on the clutch then change gears using my shifter. I wanted it to feel more realistic. Please how do i set it up to do what i want?

Solution
So I fired up fh4 to see what it does and yes it just adds a delay before it auto clutches and changes gear. You should have noticed the rpm jump up and also in cockpit view there's some scratching sound. I guess that's their idea of what grinding sounds like but it's not a realistic sound like most sounds in game. I do prefer a stick when driving a real car vs paddles but a shifter is an extra and most of the real supercars have paddle shifters. I don't enable clutch in game because paddle shifter cars don't have a clutch pedal unless it's a sequential. Having a clutch would help with drifting to be able to clutch kick but it's easy enough without it.

Shifter type is functionally the same other than pushing a paddle vs moving through...

What i meant is that when i drive a car in Forza Horizon 4, I can shift to any gear using only my Logitech shifter without even stepping on the clutch pedal. I wanted it to work like a real car so that means to change gear I first need to step on the clutch before shifting the shifter.

Ps
I tried driving with a Lamborghini Aventador in the game and thought maybe i should change the car and the clutch pedal must work right but it comes out the same even if i use older model car. It's still shifting without the pedals.

Not sure about FH4 but it may have automatic clutch enabled. FH4 isn’t exactly lifelike, it’s an arcade racer, not sim racer. Also as pointed you can shift a manual in real life without using the clutch. Some racing gearboxes are specifically designed not to use the clutch, lookup ‘dogbox gearbox’.

Edited: didn’t realise the Avantador used old single clutch, very unusual for a moder supercar.

I know what you meant but you can shift to any gear in a real car in a manual car and not use the clutch. It's not recommended because a noob will grind the gears but it's possible and recommended for a skilled driver when racing. And I'm talking about regular synchro gearboxes on every day cars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwqVTikzOp4

As mentioned fh4 is also not realistic. I believe all they do is just add a delay in shifting without the clutch. I haven't tried to clutchless shift in game for awhile and can't check now but I do have fh4 and I do have a g920 but I don't have the shifter.

Oh i didn't thought real life cars can shift without clutching. So wouldn't their be a settings i can change in game to make use of the clutch? Would i really just be stuck on shifting without clutching?

Don't know much about aventador gearboxes for i don't own one. Only in the game. haha!

I bought the fh4 because online reviews tagged it as an almost realistic racing game but how disappointed i am to know that its drving features are really not up to the reality. I guess what they tagged as realistic are its graphics and scenery only. So i guess i'm now stuck with clutchless shifting in game right?

Question: If you don't have the shifter (and i guess your shifting with the paddle shift within the steering wheel), do you still step on your pedal clutch before shifting or do you just press the paddle shift right away to change gears?

Shifter type is functionally the same other than pushing a paddle vs moving through an h pattern (which can also skip gears while paddle is sequential). With manual+clutch: let go of gas, press clutch, paddle or stick shift, let go of clutch, press the gas. With just manual without the clutch setting, I can just push the paddle (stick should be the same) and you also don't need to let go of the gas.

I honestly don't use the wheel in fh4. Some cars are completely uncontrollable and auto countersteer can't be completely disabled which makes cars snap oversteer even when not using a wheel. Fh3 was better for wheels. These games were never marketed as sim games and are typically labeled as simcade since you do need to at least brake on some turns. You can easily tell how fake it is from the braking distances. They're a fraction of how long they should be. If you want a sim racing game try project cars 2 or assetto corsa competizione. If you haven't played a sim racing game and couldn't tell fh4 was simcade, I'd have to warn you sim racers are not for everyone.

I had seen a video on youtube by Xpertgamingtech https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtYkboNKThQ where he is playing FH4 and using Logitech G29 with shifter (exactly like mine) and i can see he is using his clutch pedal when shifting gears. Do you have any idea how he is doing this?
