How do I fix crackly microphone jack on my computer?

I'm using a headset splitter, what ever you call them. Splits into two cords, one for the mic and the other for the headphones. The headset i'm using works perfectly fine. The microphone sounds all crackly like a robot when I plug it in my computer. It does it for the front and back microphone jack. I tried using a different splitter but it still does the same thing. Is there a way I can fix this? If I cant fix this is there any alternatives? By the way I just built my computer.

Try your microphone on another computer or other viable audio device.

Try another microphone on your computer with and without the splitter and via the front and back jacks.

Determine if the crackling sound follows the microphone or stays with your computer (or some particular audio configuration on your computer).

Key is to narrow down the source of the problem. Then address possible fixes.

The mic works fine now. I don't know what the problem was. All I know the problem was not the mic.
