I'm looking to upgrade my system and currently have a i5-4690k CPU. I've seen the Asus H81-plus motherboard on the market but I'm unsure whether it would be compatible?

Could anyone let me know if this would be fine to use with the CPU.
Thanks

H81 Chipset is a low-end no frills motherboard that one normally would not use a "k" model CPU with. The "k" model CPUs have an unlocked multiplier for overclocking which would not be of much use on an H81 Chipset motherboard. You would normally use a Z97 or older Z87 Chipset model with a "k" processor.

i5-4690k may require you to use an earlier model CPU to flash BIOS.

Requires BIOS version 2001 or higher

*Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool.

The Z97 board is what I use with my 4960K https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/original-motherboard-for-MSI-Z97-PC_60757369914.html?

I am however confused because you say you want to upgrade your system but the H81 isn't an upgrade. Do you have a complete parts list?

Okay i think i get what you're saying, So it would probably be better to get either a Z97 or Z87. Would this require using a earlier model CPU to flash BIOS ? I'm just not too sure what everything means when it comes to motherboards

I don't currently but could try to make one. I honestly was just looking for a cheap motherboard and saw that one. Would a Z97 be a better option?

Yes. Calvin nailed it.
