Ryzen CPU upgrade question

Hello. I put together my first gaming PC early last year with a Ryzen APU and then upgraded it over the summer when GPU prices came down. I'm happy with the performance at 1080p / 75Hz, but I've been wondering if upgrading the CPU would be a good idea for games like AC: Odyssey and Monster Hunter World and future titles coming this year.

Am I correct that the Ryzen 5 2600x would be my best option? Or should I look at something else? I can't go far above $200 total.

Specs:
Ryzen 5 2400g
Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 580 8GB
B350 MSI Tomahawk
16 gig 3200hz Vengeance RAM
500w Corsair PSU
Noctua - NH-U12S SE-AM4 CPU Cooler
75Hz Monitor

Solution
AC: Odyssey is a tough game to run, I'm using a 2600/RX 580/16gb DDR4 @3200 and for me to get 50+ FPS I have to run the game on the Low preset although I am gaming at a slightly higher resolution (2560x1080/75hz). While the 2600(X) may be a ok upgrade I'd hold off until CES in like a week when AMD will be talking about 3rd gen Ryzen & Navi. If 3rd gen Ryzen is coming out in a month or two then I'd save up for that instead of going with the 2600(X) as it should be a much better upgrade. For now I'd overclock that 2400G as far as it will safely go.

Thanks for your response. That's good advice. I will work on learning how to OC. Do you know if the motherboard I have is OK for the 2600x or the future 3rd generation? I'm wondering if I'll have to upgrade that too in the process. I don't particularly want to at the moment.

You won't need to upgrade the motherboard, only update the BIOS when the 3rd gen is released. AMD is using the AM4 socket until 2020 which is great for upgrading for current Ryzen owners.

Can I ask one more question. How will I be able to weigh the 3rd gen CPUs against the 2600x? I assume the 2600x will drop in price if the new chips are planned to go on sale this spring.
