I just found a good deal online for a 4TB WD Red NAS drive for $80, Just to be clear, I have absolutely no experience with NAS.

Can I just hook it up to my computer like an HDD? or do I need an actual stand or some kind of machine and connect ethernet into my PC?

My motherboard is ASRock X470 Master Sli/AC

A NAS HDD is like a normal HDD - the difference is that NAS drives are certified to run 24/7 and most has extended warranties (like 5 years). Normal HDDs are tested to run approx. 6h a day only.

Some people use normal HDDs in their dedicated NAS boxes. But a bad idea as normal HDDs are not meant to run continuously for prolonged periods.
