Hi, I just updated my cpu from a i5 6400 to a i7 7700 (non k). My motherboard and chipset is a skybay and intel h170. When I turn on the pc the fans spin and everything seems normal but no display. My keyboard or mouse don't light up either. I've tried everything I can think of. I took out the CMOS battery, and have reinstalled it twice. I put the old cpu in and everything is normal (EVERYTHING works). I'm very confused. I'm new to pc stuff. I think it might be something with the BIOS but I'm not good with that stuff. Anything will help. Thank you

Solution

For OEM systems you check for drivers and BIOS based on PC model number not the motherboard. Also since it's an OEM system, the motherboard may be limited to what can run on it.

01AJ15 if you search that the motherboard pops up. Lenovo has nothing on their website for that mobo. But they have a bios update for my PC If that's the same. My pc model # is 90DG0006US

Ok thank you. Hopefully that is not the case. I really don't want to install new mobo. I had it boot into windows once (on integrated graphics) but it was super slow and laggy. Now I'm getting a screen that says Error 0167 No Processor Microcode update found. Is there a fix to that?

MERGED QUESTION
Question from lilejohnson1 : "BIOS VERSION NOT CHANGING please help"

Recently I've decided to upgrade my PC. I currently have a Lenovo Y700-34ish Model # is 90dg0006us

I want to upgrade pretty much everything (CPU, GPU, PSU, RAM). I already have all the parts installed except for the CPU. My new CPU is a I7 7700 (non k). But I can't, the BIOS is currently dated at Nov 2017 the latest is Dec 2017 for this PC. When ever I try and update it the version will not change, I've tried multiple times nothing. I eventually tried installing it without updating it. It only provides display through the integrated graphics. It won't work with the GPU. I got into windows once but it was very "laggy" and couldn't do anything. Now I just get a screen saying "Error 0167 No processor microcode update found". I have tried every possible way I can think of to fix it, CMOS cleared, reset ram, etc.

Is it my mobo preventing this? If so WILL I need to upgrade? I don't want to upgrade my mobo unless necessary.

PC specs (BEFORE upgrades)
Intel I5 6400 2.7Ghz, GTX 960, 8gb ddr4 ram, Mobo is weird not popular at all it's a Lenovo Skybay w/ Intel Skylake H170 chipset.

Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors (doing this on my phone).
