How long can my card run at high temps until it becomes slower

So i recently built a pc with an asus turbo gtx 1080 and its been running at 60-68 degrees celsius on load while clocked at 1788 mhz. i have two configurations in gpu tweak 2, gaming and idle, i accidentally played a full game of black ops 4 for like 20 minutes or so on the idle configuration and i got up to 83 degrees celcius. i finished the game and immediately ran my fan speed at 100% so i could cool the gpu off. Did I damage the card at all? i played a game with my gaming configuration and i got around 150-170 as i normally do but i just want to make sure i didn't mess anything up. looking forward to any responses so i can have some closure on the matter.

Hi

GPUs are meant to be gamed with & they are tougher than you might think. Usually a GPU will protect itself by slowing down if it gets too hot.

80 isnt really near the limits the GPU can handle trust me. Ive had many GPUs & some of them were overclocked like crazy in less than ideal cases where they reached much higher temperatures & I never had any problems. If the card thinks its getting too hot it will protect itself by throttling & underclocking itself to lower temperatures.

I just saw a post on here about a kid that built his 1st pc & his dad thought a cpu cooler was too expensive so he doesnt have one. The kid's CPU is running 150 idle on the desktop before he even starts gaming & hes like 'do I really need a cooler, I...
No, you did not damage your card running at 83C. That card will downclock to lower temp to prevent damage if necessary. I would not recommend running a GPU, or a CPU for that matter, consistently higher than 80C as a daily driver. That temp is a little high to run for long term and may shorten the lifespan some if ran for months or longer.

I think youre fine :) :) :)
