Hei, I have an opportunity to choose either 6850K with Strix x99 gaming mobo and 8700 non K version. I thought the 6850 would be better but I have checked the benchmarks and they all say 8700 do a better job in performance. The only think which worries me is a working temperature, poeple seems to get quite a high temperature when on load. I have a Intels liquid cooler for CPU.
I also love the strix x99 gaming mobo with the build in wifi but I can change it in order to get better CPU.

GPU is asus 1080Ti

Solution
Well the 8700 will not work in an X99 motherboard. You need an LGA 1151 board H370 for example to use an 8700. The 8700 is the better CPU in pretty much every regard. The 8700 does fine in terms of temps, a 6850k would likely run hotter it certainly pulls a lot more power than the 8700.

yes I do have asus z370, just without wifi but I can just buy additional card for that, i do not have opportunity to have a lan cable there.
I was able to keep 6850k at a max 70c with my liquid cooler under stress test so I assume it will be good cooling for 8700 as well. So even the non K version would be better than 6850k?
I do not overclock anything, sometimes I use auto setting so probably the system do it for me on occasion

there is nothing cheapest but I went for 8700 and I set higher bclk and higher limits for current and the power stages and it perform very good. Probably I will go to 9900K when it will drop the price.
