Hey guys first post on here! I have a HP Z400 with a x5690, 24GB ram, win 10, upgraded psu (600w) with the proper adapter. I tried installing my RX 580 and it will not post, no video output. There is no lights flashing or beeps from the system. When I turn the system on all the fans operate at normal speed. My monitor detects something when the system initially boots but goes into sleep mode right after. I have a old gtx 280 I installed that with no issues. My bios version is 3.57. I'm thinking a possible bios update or some setting I have to switch. Any help would be awesome!

Here is one running that card.

First update the BIOS. 2nd with a GPU running create a System restore point, boot into Safe Mode and remove the GPU drivers. Then install the new GPU and boot into Safe Mode. Install the new drivers there. if it won't boot into Safe Mode see if you have a UEFI BIOS conflict between the card and system. New card can be UEFI or not it has nothing to do with age. A Legacy card can run on anything with a couple BIOS setting changed. A UEFI card will require a UEFI BIOS to run.

Do you have a driver issue? I suggest deleting your old drivers from within device manager. Then try installing the card and reboot. If that doesn't get you started,.try installing the drivers for the 580 before you boot with the new card installed.

It could also be a bricked card.

Welcome to Toms!

I would definitely try a BIOS update, but given the age of the x5690, there might be a problem with the rx 580. while PCIe is backwards compatible, new graphics cards can have problems with antique (relatively speaking) motherboards, especially the RX 400 series and newer due to them lacking a non UEFI compatibility BIOS

I have made a pretty noob mistake... The RX 580 has a bios selector switch sunken in towards the front ports. I just had to switch it non UEFI and it worked no problems at all! I did also update the bios through dos to v3.61 from v3.57. Thanks for everyone's help, great community here!!
