Hello wvwryone!
So I recently bought the Arctic Alpine 11 Plus CPU cooler for a retro socket 775 PC project (https://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/alpine-11-plus.html), and I mounted it on the CPU (a Pentium 4 650, 3.4Ghz) with the preapplied thermal paste that came with the cooler. I fired up the PC and while in BIOS, I noticed that the CPU temperature was indicating about 40 degrees Celsius and it was rising continuously, until it reached about 45 degrees. The fan of the cooler was spinning at about 2200 rpm. I then shut down the PC. I separately bought an Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal compound and I was wondering if I shoud separately apply it.
Also, how does the fan of this cooler work? Does it pull air in, towards the CPU, or does it blow the air out, away from the CPU? And is it ok to mount the cooler witht the side aluminum fins facing the RAM memory and the back of the case, or they should face the top and bottom of the case? My PC case has a huge 23cm side fan, and I would like it to blow air inside the case, but I don't know how the Arctic Alpine 11 Plus' fan works.
