Which Core i5 are you talking about? The Maximus X Hero is Z370 motherboard and will support 8th and 9th generation CPUs eg. Core i5 8400, 8500, 8600k and 9600k (with BIOS update). If you have a 6th or 7th generation Core i5 eg. 6600k or 7600k, then it will not work.
